Jordan R. Sawyer

​

Jordan Sawyer has been the Director of Bands at Kernan Middle School since January of 2016. Mr. Sawyer brings four years experience of directing middle school bands in Broward County. Under Mr. Sawyer's direction, the Forest Glen Middle School bands received four straight years of a "Superior" rating at the District 15 Music Performance Assessment, consistently sat students at the Broward All County Honor Band, represented District 15 with three students in the Florida All State Honor Band, and received over twenty "Superior" award medals for students in the District 15 Solo & Ensemble Festival.

 

Mr. Sawyer has worked with State Award Winning Marching Bands such as the Stoneman Douglass High School Eagle Regiment, the Coral Springs High School Marching Colts, and the Coral Glades High School Marching Jaguars. He helped teach music, drill, and design for competitive shows that ranked among the top five in the state.

A graduate of South Plantation High School, Mr. Sawyer received an Associates of Music Education as a flautist from Broward College, and studied with a focus in Interdisciplinary Studies for his Bachelors from Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Sawyer will be attending the University of North Florida for a graduate degree in music.

 

Mr. Sawyer's professional affiliations include the Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi national honorary fraternity for bandmembers. Mr. Sawyer has been an active consultant in marching band show design and middle school curriculum to bands in South Florida.

A brother of a pianist, trumpetist, saxophonist, and hornist, Mr. Sawyer has a love for Sci-Fi and fiction, and often writes his own music. Mr. Sawyer enjoys reading, furniture recycling, and finding new music.

 

In 2016, Mr. Sawyer premiered a piece of Wind Ensemble literature entitled "Yellow!" with his alma mater, South Plantation High School, under the direction of Danielle Singer.
