Awards & Recognition

There are many measures of success for the Kernan Osprey Band Program, not the least of which is our incredible growth over the last school year! Through the unrelenting pursuit of "excellence through music" by our director and students, the Kernan Osprey Band Program has established a reputation for having the highest of standards. Fifth grade students from our three "feeder" elementary schools come to us in droves and can't wait to get in on the action in the Kernan Band Room!

Band and Ensemble Awards

More tangible than that are the awards the Program can receive when performing as an ensemble at various festivals and competitions. These include performance in the Dirstrict 17 Music Performance Assessment, audition opportunities into the Duval Honor Band and Florida All State Honor Band, the Disney Festival music competition, and the District 17 Solo & Ensemble Festival; opportunities Kernan Osprey Band will have for the first time in 2016.

Student Acheivement and Awards

Students also have opportunities for recognition of their individual performance skills at the All-County, and All-State Band auditions. When students are selected to one or more of these honor bands, they then have the privilege of attending the band clinic for that event, which culminates in a concert performance with all other selected students from the county, region, or state. It's a wonderful learning experience for the students and a memorable concert performance for students and families alike. Additionally, students may participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival, the last competition of the school year, designed to recognize individual and small group ensemble performance excellence.

Outstanding Bandmember Badge

At the beginning of the school year, each beginner receives a Badge Sheet, which lists key lines from their method book, scales, solos, and other things that we want students to learn during the year. Once a student completes every group, he or she will earn a badge. Students can wear these at concerts or any other time they want to show off their accomplishments. In addition, the first student each year to earn their badge is given a large poster board to decorate and sign. Each student who then passes off their badge will add their signature to the poster.
